In this training, we will explore our pre-made content specific Escape rooms and the blank template Escape Rooms ready for you to create your own. Plus, this is an interactive training so, you will have the opportunity complete one of the pre-made Gale Escape rooms! Escape rooms are an engaging way to help your students explore your Gale resources from the Hawaii Department of Ed. Learn best practices for Escape Room development and implementation. This session is intended for any educator looking to integrate Gale into their library or classroom.

We'll explore simple but powerful strategies to help students recognize their emotional responses to media and make mindful choices to engage with media personally and academically. Learn how to foster emotional intelligence and critical thinking by adapting resources from educators like Jennifer LaGarde and organizations like the News Literacy Project and Common Sense Media to combat misinformation with age-appropriate content that is locally relevant. This session will highlight the integration of interactive library spaces and hands-on reading activities to inspire young readers. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own literacy promotion ideas and collaborate with peers on effective approaches to fostering a love of reading at all grade levels. Additionally, a dynamic new reading initiative for Kindergarten through Grade 3 students called the Gosling Award program will be shared.
