Sean Petrie is an award-winning author, poet, and professor. As a founder of the poetry troupe
Typewriter Rodeo, Sean has written over 20,000 poems for people all over the country, at events ranging from Willie Nelson's annual music festival to the Smithsonian Museum, from celebrities to accountants (not necessarily mutually exclusive!), ages 1 to 100. He has taught hundreds of poetry and writing workshops at schools and libraries, does weekly radio poems for Austin's NPR station, and occasionally does poetry-music stage shows (the last one was with former
Go-Go's guitarist Kathy Valentine).
His books for children include
Pet Poems (also not just pets) and its companion workbook,
Pet Poems Plus (Burlwood), the
Jett Ryder adventure-history series (North Star), various books for Fountas & Pinnell, and the forthcoming poetry collection,
Universe at the Tips of Your Toes (Burlwood). His adult poetry books include
Typewriter Rodeo: Real People, Real Stories, Custom Poems (Andrews McMeel), the Seattle-based collection,
Listen to the Trees (Documentary Media), and an essay in the forthcoming anthology,
Spinning Toward the Sun: Essays on Writing, Resilience, and the Creative Life.
Sean has an MFA in Writing for Children from Vermont College, a law degree from Stanford, and with the other side of his brain teaches legal writing at the University of Texas School of Law. He owns way too many typewriters and lives in Austin, Texas, with his dog, Margo. More at
